Nathan E. Nachlas, M.D. is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with experience in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology. Patients are frequently referred to Dr. Nachlas by ENTs (ear, nose and throat surgeons) and plastic surgeons because of his expertise and first-rate patient care. He has performed surgery on thousands of patients with outstanding results.
Dr. Nachlas is a specialist in rhinoplasty, addressing both functional issues and abnormalities in the form of the nose. Through his extensive training and skill he has been able to provide patients with an aesthetically pleasing nose that also leaves them breathing easier. Cosmetic nose surgery is performed as either open rhinoplasty, with incisions placed externally, or closed rhinoplasty, where incisions are hidden inside the nose. Dr. Nachlas is often sought out as a leading revision rhinoplasty specialist in Boca Raton, performing numerous secondary procedures to improve dissatisfaction with the form or function of the nose after prior surgery.
In addition to nasal reshaping, Dr. Nachlas performs other medical services, including advanced sinus surgery with computer-assisted sinusotomy and balloon sinuplasty. He uses state-of-the-art technology and proven techniques to alleviate the symptoms of sinusitis, a condition that affects more than 37 million people every year.
The multi-faceted skills of Dr. Nachlas also extend to facial plastic surgeries for other areas of the face. Cosmetic surgery allows patients to look and feel better, reversing signs of aging and enhancing harmony in the face while increasing confidence. The following are some of the facial plastic surgery procedures performed by Dr. Nachlas at his Boca Raton practice.
Facial Plastic Surgery Procedures
All cosmetic surgery procedures are performed with the intention of enhancing the patient’s appearance, rather than changing it. This makes it possible to achieve the most natural look.
If wrinkles and creases around the mouth or sagging skin in the lower third of the face and neck have you looking older than you feel, a traditional facelift may be able to help you look 10 to 15 years younger. During the procedure, incisions are made in the hairline and the natural creases of the face and ears. The skin and tissue are repositioned and tightened to reduce looseness and wrinkling of the skin. The procedure takes approximately 2 to 4 hours under general anesthesia. It is an outpatient procedure, which will take about 2 weeks to recover from at home. Typical side effects include some swelling and bruising, which will subside over time.
Patients with more moderate skin laxity may benefit from a facelift that utilizes smaller and fewer incisions. Minimal-downtime facelift incisions are confined to in front of and behind the ears, avoiding the hairline. The skin and tissue is repositioned as with a traditional facelift and it addresses many of the same concerns, but requires less surgical and recovery time. Swelling and bruising is limited, allowing patients to return to work within a week.
Tired looking eyes that do not improve with sleep may be the result of sagging skin and puffiness that can only be alleviated with surgery. Eyelid surgery, known medically as blepharoplasty, is a procedure that removes excess skin, fat, and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. The procedure results in a more rested appearance and may be combined with other cosmetic surgeries for optimal improvement. Typically performed with general anesthesia during an outpatient procedure, eyelid surgery patients can expect to return to work and other light activity between 7 and 10 days after surgery.
A brow lift raises drooping brows, which can cause a tired, angry, or sad expression to be a permanent fixture of the face. The brow lift opens up the forehead region, relaxing the brow and smoothing forehead wrinkles. Excess skin is trimmed away while the remaining skin and tissue is tightened. The procedure may be performed through either traditional techniques or an endoscopic approach that requires smaller incisions.
The neck can also show signs of aging with sagging skin and wrinkles. To correct the loose skin of the neck area, excess skin and fat deposits are removed during the 2-hour surgery. Muscle and tissue are also tightened, leaving the neck with a sleeker, more youthful appearance. Most patients are able to return to work after 10 to 14 days.
It’s not uncommon for excess fat to accumulate in the chin and jowl area. The additional heaviness in the lower face can counteract a youthful appearance, which unfortunately is not always easily improved with healthy eating and exercise. Facial liposuction is performed on the delicate area with incisions placed in the mouth or under the chin. A very small cannula is used to suction out the unwanted fat and sculpt the face. When performed alone, facial liposuction can be completed with local anesthesia and IV sedation. After 1 to 2 weeks, swelling and bruising will subside and patients are left with a firmer lower face and neck.
A misshapen nose, or one that is too large or too small, can significantly impact balance in the face. Since the nose is such a focal feature, feeling dissatisfied with the way it looks can also lower confidence. To restore self-esteem and aesthetics, rhinoplasty is performed. The most natural-looking and complimentary nose is carefully sculpted for each patient using either open or closed rhinoplasty, depending on their unique needs. Cosmetic rhinoplasty may be combined with other procedures that improve function and sinus health. Most patients are able to return to work in about 1 week.
Revision rhinoplasty can be performed after one or more prior nose surgeries. It usually corrects deformities or complications that arise from rhinoplasty surgery, but may also be performed after injury or trauma to the nose has occurred. It can be much more challenging than a primary procedure due to a lack of cartilage and the presence of scar tissue. Most revisions utilize the open rhinoplasty technique and can take up to 4 hours. Recovery is similar to primary rhinoplasty.
